1. how long have you considered yourself a writer, and do you think you will ever not be a writer?

i have considered myself a writer for less than a month. i'm not sure if i will ever not be a writer. i hope not.

2. did you watch a lot of cartoons growing up? which ones?

yes. when i was really young i liked popeye the sailor man and doug. and when i was older i'd watch sailor moon and spiderman back to back. i think i also liked the aladdin cartoon. i also was really into anime for a couple years, especially rurouni kenshin.

3. what do you want to be when you grow up?

i really don't know. some kind of luminary. i like the idea of talking in front of packed rooms of people.

4. do you think the movie wall-e provides a healthy view of love or the emotions related to the idea of love or an unhealthy view of how to devote yourself to something/someone to avoid loneliness?

i haven't seen wall-e. but i used to have a lot of problems with loneliness.

5. if youc ould be any president of the united states past or pres who would it be and why?

no way. seems stressful and boring and like you'd feel so futile. the only fun part seems to be giving speeches. or maybe "fireside chats." so maybe i would be that guy.

6. list your favorite Beatles in order best to worst.

john, paul, george, ringo, me

7. what do you think about having a conversation through art?

seems cool, tell me more

8 how do you think traveling affects your writing?

traveling really helps me arrange my time. whenever i am en route somewhere i am filled with excitement about my plans for my destination & i think a lot about what i want which is to write & then when i get there i am excited to write. after i am in one place for a little while sometimes i get a little bit confused or depressed. also traveling helps me edit. when i look at my writing in a new place i often see it really differently and wanna change it in particular ways.

9. what is your favorite sport to play/watch?

ice-skating, maybe

10. have you ever thought about jumping from a moving car?

yeah, a lot

11. did you know that the owners of Little Debbie Snacks are 7th day adventists? and what is your favorite Little Debbie snack?

no i didn't know that. i am going to google "7th day adventists." ok i am back. the wikipedia says that they are known for their "emphasis on diet and health" and "holistic understanding of a person" which is like a pretty unsurprising irony.

i don't have a favorite little debbie snack.

12. have you ever thrown up in public?

no, not really, i'm not sure what you mean. one time we played edward forty hands with four loko and i threw up in both the hosts' bathroom and their sink.

13. name as many bodies of water you have swam in that you can remember.

pool, kristy's house, connecticut
pool with decorative waterfall, joey's house, new jersey
lake michigan
pool, JCC, maryland
pool, community center, connecticut
pool with rad water slide, community center, germany
pond at acorn community, virginia
creek at east wind community, missouri

14. what is your favorite city on earth that you have been in.

when i was 12 i lived in a small town in northwest germany called leverkusen for four months and i loved it there. i loved the way german felt coming out of my mouth. and the pedestrian zones where you could get nutcrackers and the buses for 1 mark and the really good chocolate you could get at the grocery store. and they were obsessed with beverages and me too. everything was just inexplicably tasteful and orderly and that felt very homey to me.

15. in three sentences describe the role writing has in your life.

sometimes i think it is a way to try to put all my excess mental energy into a form that can be digested and valued by my friends. i think it's a lot about recognition. maybe it's also a little bit because some of the best most holiest moments in my life have been when i was reading something & i just want to make more of those moments exist.
