1. The most drastic example of this was when I interviewed for a call center job in Vermillion, SD. After telling the interviewer that I was an Eagle Scout he left the room and then the General Manager of the center came in to shake my hand. I got the job, it sucked, I quit a few months later.
In general I will say that the knowledge gained from the Eagle Scout process is valuable. Two days ago a guy that works with my girlfriend "jokingly" posted on facebook that he wasnt feeling well and chalked it up to bad breakfast. I immediately recognized that he was describing heart attack symptoms and woke up my poor girlfriend to go check on him at the theater. (He's a stubborn old douche though, and wouldn't go to the doctor. He said he took a Tums and it was all good. You don't get shooting pain in your left arm and jaw from undercooked sausage)
So the answer is yes.
2. When I was young and watched Aladdin for the first time, I thought that Jafar's wish to be the most powerful sorceror in the world was awesome. I decided that would be one of my three wishes if I ever got the chance (now the question is that if you get that wish are you just a slightly better Criss Angel because magic doesn't really exist? I suppose if a genie is granting you wishes then some magic is around, but genies tend to fuck you over). Magic is great because you can do anything with it. Hypnotize Arab princesses...turn into snakes...the options are LIMITLESS!
I wouldn't hang out with Gilbert Gottfried though.
3. I cut my face off as a Halloween costume. When I looked in a mirror and realized my fleshless red skull face was too scary, I tried to put my skin back on. It won't stay, and keeps rolling up like a flappy window curtain. I decide to just slap it on and not make any facial expressions in order to keep it in place. Then I moved into an apartment that Justin used to occupy. He's terrified of staying there because it's haunted, but I convince him to stay. I don't remember the rest. This was back in October.
4. The only dreams I can ever remember are incredibly bizarre and surreal, so it's hard to put them in context of what's going on in my life. My head is always full of fantastic imagery, and I think my subconscious goes wild with the possibilities. There is a recurring theme of places being haunted in my dreams, but I'm not sure how that relates to my life other than my fascination with the paranormal.
5. I haven't written in a long time. I feel like I should get back into it. I tried the blog thing and couldn't keep up with it. The only writing I do is when I work on roleplaying campaigns or very short stories for the miniatures games I play. Every time I manage to get in some writing, even if it's describing what some Ork is doing to a Space Marine, I remember how fun it is. Maybe I should do more of it.
6. I've only eaten there twice, but the beer cheese dip at The Alchemist in Waterbury is amazing. The guy also crafts some of the finest beer I've ever had. I could make a top ten out of this question; there are so many great places to eat out here.
7. 1. Handsome Mick's Smoked Stout at the Vermont Pub and Brewery. Sadly they don't make it anymore, and I miss it terribly.
2. Rock Art Brewery's Vermonster. 120 IBUs of face-melting hoppy IPA.
3. Otter Creek's Black IPA. Another awesome dark IPA.
4. Stone's Arrogant Bastard Ale. Can't be a beer snob if you don't love this ale.
5. Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. I love IPAs
8. I constantly confuse the people I work with by the way I speak. I'm not sure if this properly answers the question, though. Hard to say.
9. I don't think anything can top that Staypuft costume I did a few years ago. I've been starved for creative costumes ever since. People that Anna works with are trying to get me into a Peter Griffin costume next year. I am not down with that idea.
10. The biggest thing I can take from the other states I've lived in: people aren't that different. When I first moved out here, I figured that it would be so different from Nebraska. But small-town Vermont isn't that different from small-town Nebraska. The rednecks here just have trees and mountains to look at. There is a lot of history in this part of the country, which I saw when I first visited the graveyard here in Hartford and saw people who died in 1790. The part of South Dakota that I lived in isn't that different from central Nebraska, but I was exposed to a large number of Native Americans (which we didn't really have in Columbus) and their culture. It was very embarassing to ask a girl I saw briefly if she was Mexican, only to find out that she is full blood Lakota!
I think it's beneficial to go beyond your comfort zone and leave your home, even if just for a short time. You learn a lot about people and the world, even if you only go one state over.
11. I would love to own a brewpub. I don't know if this is a realistic goal, but if I can make it happen, I will.
12. My screen name Doctor Clockwork started as a super hero I played only once in a game, and I liked the ring of it so much that I've registered it on dozens of sites in the past 6 years. I would live at the top of a mountain. In a castle.
13. Sylar. Why pick one superpower when you can have them all? Unfortunately, he got really lame in the later seasons. So the cheerleader.
14. My dad was a drag racing, gun shooting, motorcycle riding guy from small town Nebraska who watched sci-fi and loved comic books as a kid. That is such a strange juxtaposition to me, and I love it. Of course, I took to the sci-fi a lot more than the more manly things my dad did. I often wish I had paid more attention to the car stuff so I wouldn't be driving around with a burned out headlight for two weeks until my girlfriend changes it for me. I still keep in touch with Tricky (usually consists of weather talk, but it's always been that way), but I don't talk to Mike that often. It's strange, but I feel like we aren't the type of brothers that call each other up to chat. We're different yet similar (I've noticed that both of us have Dad's toothy smile as we've grown older) I'm glad that he eventually joined my friend group (I believe it was solely due to D&D), because he fits in well.
15. I wish that I had never told my girlfriend about that.
arrogant bastard. nice bottle too.
